In partnership with Alberta Student Transportation Advisory Council (ASTAC), the Black Gold Regional Division No. 18 (BGRD) worked closely with its Transportation Department and BGRD schools in order to promote school bus safety for students and families.
Annually, ASTAC sponsors a Provincial Poster Contest for all Kindergarten to grade six students across Alberta. The contest runs during School Bus Safety Week, which occurs during the third week of October. Students were asked to create a theme depicting school bus safety and that winning theme, “Transportation is cool, when you take the bus to school”, submitted by BGRD’s very own Jessielyn Kabanuk of New Humble Centre School, has now been announced as the 2015 School Bus Safety Poster Contest theme in Alberta.
At the BGRD School Board meeting on March 15th, Trustees presented two provincial grade winners, two provincial grade honourable mentions, and an overall theme winner, their prizes.
All recipients received their picture professionally framed along with a plaque to hang in their school. The winners of each grade category also received a $50 Indigo gift card and a cheque for $100 for a school field trip. Honourable mention winners received a $25 Indigo gift card. The theme winner received a $50 Indigo gift card.
Congratulations to the following BGRD students for their creativity and efforts in helping to promote school bus safety.
