  • City of Leduc Configuration Acceptance

Posted on    Posted in Leduc Family of Public Schools

Black Gold Regional Schools (BGRS) has received capital funding approval for a Kindergarten to Grade 9 School to be constructed within the neighborhood of West Haven within the City of Leduc. The school is scheduled to open for the 2016 – 2017 school year. Consequently, school attendance area boundaries and school grade configurations within the City of Leduc needed to be reviewed.

On Wednesday, June 18, 2014 the BGRS Board of Trustees voted to accept the Configuration Review recommendations put forth by administration. The following objectives were used to guide the configuration review process:

    • Enable viable enrolments at all Leduc Schools.
    • Ensure all Leduc Schools work within their capacity, in terms of portable or modular classrooms.
    • Accommodate special needs students through the inclusion model when appropriate and through Division programming when necessary.
    • Respect City of Leduc residential neighborhood boundaries as closely as possible.
    • Provide a long term location(s) for rural students to be accommodated.
    • Support Division programs (e.g. French Immersion, AAP, Skills, etc.) and services at the appropriate schools.
    • Support successful transitions of students and families from current attendance boundaries and grade configurations as required.

We are pleased to announce that, through the evaluation of accumulated data and public consultation, each of these objectives has been met. This is an exciting time for the students and the parents of the City of Leduc: new school, new boundaries, new grade configurations, and new opportunities.

We would like to thank everyone involved and we look forward to working through the changes with you.
