A multimedia  investigation  of Night by Eli Wiesel

Each group will be responsible for responding, in depth, to one of the discussion questions previously assigned.  (See “Discussion Questions” hand-out.)  You will present your response to the class by creating a Power Point Presentation.

In your presentation, consider including:

ü         Significant quotations from book

ü         An examination of author’s style (e.g. imagery, irony, foreshadowing, use of metaphor, etc.)

ü         Interesting tidbits of information that goes beyond Wiesel’s memoir (e.g. bio info on Wiesel, his father, Dr. Mengele, diseases suffered, info/statistics on WWII, Hitler, etc.)

ü         Definition of terms used in presentation (e.g. Passover, Talmud, Holocaust, etc.)

ü         Maps, charts, paintings, newspaper headlines, video footage, etc.

ü         Scripting presentation to ensure you have something interesting, informative, and articulate to say.

In addition to the Power Point, each presentation needs to include the following:

ü         Music (either as accompaniment to establish mood, or a song that reflects a similar theme (e.g.  man’s inhumanity to man, loss, love, hope, chaos)  Discuss your selection and clarify why it is an appropriate choice.

ü         Creative Element: each member of the group must contribute something in written form that reflects/enhances some aspect of the topic (e.g. poem, letter, newspaper article, journal entry, etc.)  Offer the necessary background information leading up to your creative endeavor.

ü         Visual Representation of some aspect of the topic (e.g. collage, illustration, model, “Show and Tell” paraphernalia, symbolic representation, etc.) Offer an explanation and clarify its connection to your topic

ü         A parallel or connection to another situation with a similar theme, either present day or historical, either fact or fictional  (e.g. Japanese internment in Canada, civilian loss in Vietnam, Kosovo…the parallel does not have to be another war… it could be famous father-son relationships, Kyoto…use your collective brain power…Necessary background information must be included along with any visual aids that will enhance the parallel.

ü         Bibliography must be submitted with at least 3 sources cited, including one source from each of the following categories: reference book, periodical, electronic source (internet).

Remember, this is a collaborative, creative group effort.  You need to determine how best to accomplish the tasks.  How will you assign roles?  Who will be responsible for what part of the presentation?  You need to be efficient and productive with your time.
