The television is perhaps the most
commonly used form of mass media, although it is currently facing stiff
competition from new media like video games and the Internet. Dozens of
television channels are now available to most Canadian homes through cable
companies and satellite television services. Many of these channels that are
now available to television viewers are 'specialty channels'. In other
words, these channels deliver programs that are geared to special interests
or subjects. There are music channels like Much Music, sports channels like
TSN and SportsNet, movie channels, cartoon channels, news channels, weather
