All busses are contracted and the Division does not own any busses. Contractors and their drivers are a conscientious and professional group of individuals whose main responsibility is the safe transportation of students to and from school. The students’ main responsibility is to follow the rules and regulations, which have been implemented for the safety of the students and the drivers.
Bus drivers and contractors who operate for Black Gold Regional Division are required to have the following:
- A completed qualifications form
- A copy of a driver’s license with the appropriate Class license for the size of the bus
- An annual Driver Abstract with no more than 6 demerits
- An updated first aid certificate due every three years and equivalent to St. John’s Ambulance Emergency or Standard First Aid with CPR
- A current Criminal Check
- Two written references
- S Endorsement
- The walk around portion is required (if just received Class 1 or 2 training this would have been included with it
- Full certificate required within 6 months of being approved as a driver for Black Gold Regional Schools
Bus drivers are given a Bus Driver Handbook as well as Student Management booklet to assist them when operating a school bus.
