Alberta Education Funding Update

Black Gold Regional Schools received $1,350,802 from the Provincial government as part of their commitment to restore funding levels to local school boards.  Black Gold put together a comprehensive plan which acknowledges the Ministers commitment to:

  • Build capacity
  • Recognize the importance of collaboration
  • Move us to an inclusive education system

 The following areas will be enhanced:

  • Additional 4 FTE staff to lower class size and support student learning
  • Targeted Alberta Initiative for School Improvement funding will be used to hire 4.35 FTE school-based teachers
  • Targeted $35,000 for English as a Second Language goes directly to support the student
  • Additional 6 FTE Education Assistants and 1 FTE Learning Support Teacher time to enhance program delivery
  • Professional Development funding reinstated of $150 per staff to support an inclusive education system and capacity building
  • Technology Integration by adding 400 student netbooks
  • Instructional Innovative fund of $100,000 to explore opportunities to enhance learning in Black Gold Regional Schools.

 HIGHLIGHTS

  • Black Gold continues to meet the class size initiative (smaller class sizes)
  • 9 FTE Teaching staff added
  • 6 FTE Educational Assistants added
  • 400 student netbooks added
  • New “Innovation” opportunity to engage students in the classroom
  • Enhanced professional development opportunities
