Google Apps Pilot At Robina Baker

Collaboration has never been easier for grade 4 students at Robina Baker Elementary School using Google Chrome Docs as a tool. When the keen students were given a creative writing assignment using the web based program, they were able to collaborate with both their teacher and each other through the entire process. As they were writing, their teacher was able to sit at a computer and read through each one digitally making comments and suggestions directly on their work and in the appropriate areas without interrupting the creative writing process. The class loved it because they were getting instant feedback and could make corrections while they worked and learn throughout the process rather than just read the comments after the fact. Classroom teacher, Tarynne Angell, said the kids were excited and would even announce when she was in their story and share the comments that were made with each other.  Once the stories are complete, students will be able to collaborate their work by sharing them with their peers through Google Docs to make comments and suggestions of their own.  Next, students will be using the program to complete a center based Social Studies project where they will be able to collaborate on tasks in small groups.
