The plan to reopen schools and school divisions is a fluid one, and is dependent upon the advice of the Province’s Chief Medical Officer. At Black Gold School Division, planning has been well underway for weeks as to what the re-entry to schools in September 2020 will look like for our students, staff and families.

We were pleased to receive the school re-entry plan (2020-21 school year) from Alberta Education, which allows schools and parents to prepare for learning while putting student and staff safety first. The Alberta Government has also indicated that the start of the school year re-entry scenario will be determined by August 1, 2020.

The re-entry plan for Early Childhood Services – Grade 12 schools considers the three scenarios outlined in the provincial plan that could be implemented when the school year begins. Black Gold School Division is planning for each of the following:

    • Scenario 1: In-school classes resume (near normal with health measures)
    • Scenario 2: In-school classes partially resume (with additional health measures)
    • Scenario 3: At-home learning continues (in-school classes are suspended/cancelled)

While we truly hope to begin the school year at Scenario 1, we recognize that we may be required to transition from one scenario to another with short notice.

Find out more about the three scenarios, as discussed in the letter sent to parents/guardians and students on June 18, 2020.
