BGRD students discuss how to ‘ignite’ positive change in their schools

On Friday, March 22, 2019, more than 300 students from across Black Gold Regional Division No.18 (BGRD) gathered at West Haven Public School for the 2019 BGRD Youth Leadership Conference. Titled ‘Ignite My Potential’, the event focussed on sparking discussion and fueling student ideas that they can take back to their respective schools to ‘ignite’ positive change in their schools.

Through quick, dynamic student presentations called ‘Ignites’ and age-appropriate breakout sessions, the attendees fostered their leadership potential, explored strategies on how to leverage their leadership to help their fellow students, and determined the next steps to do so.

The day included keynote speeches from Edmonton radio personality J’Lyn Nye and former NHL player Carlin Nordstrom.

BGRD would like to recognize the efforts of the organizing committee and thank the staff, volunteers, and our community partners for making the event a success.
