At their regular meeting on November 25, the Black Gold School Division (BGSD) Board of Trustees approved the 2020-2021 Combined Annual Education Results Report (AERR) and Three Year (3YEP) Education Plan, which showcases program highlights and accomplishments, trends and issues, division goals and performance measures.

“The many challenges we faced this year showed us that what is demanding can also be inspiring,” said Board Chair Devonna Klaassen. “While the pandemic brought about fast and significant change, much remains unchanged; students continue to learn, grow and succeed and we continue to face each new day as we always have – together as the Black Gold family.”

The document was developed in the context of the provincial government’s business and fiscal plans. The Board used the results reported in the document to develop the Division’s education plan and is committed to implementing the strategies contained therein to improve student learning and results.

Parental involvement is essential in the planning and reporting process to help focus efforts to improve the quality of education provided to students. This year, BGSD expanded the opportunity to include representation from all school community stakeholders (students, parents, elected officials, teachers, and administrators) and engaged participants in dialogue related to strategic planning. The event was well attended and much information was provided by stakeholders.

“As a Board, we continually strive to increase community engagement, communication, and advocacy efforts. We appreciate that our parents, as stakeholders, are deeply involved in the educational experience of their children,” said Board Chair Klaassen. “Gathering parent input and perspective strengthens our ability to make sound decisions for the benefit of all students.”

“Once again, Black Gold teachers have upheld our tradition of providing a high level of academic rigor and students have met their challenge by attaining the learning goals set before them,” said Superintendent of Schools Bill Romanchuk. “Furthermore, Black Gold continues to offer a wide variety of programs, courses and programming options that keep students engaged and prepare them to meet the challenges of the workforce once they leave our schools.”

“We are proud of the accomplishments of our students, staff and school communities,” said Associate Superintendent – Learning Services Norm Dargis. “The Combined Education Plan and AERR captures only a small number of the great things happening in our Division. It presents forward-thinking ideas on how to meet student needs and continue to improve.”
