Black Gold School Division is pleased to announce the appointment of Deven Kumar as our new Communications Advisor, effective July 7, 2020.

“Deven checks all the boxes,” said Superintendent of Schools Bill Romanchuk. “His experience in developing communications and strategic plans as well as IAP2 strategies are going to be very valuable to the organization.  Furthermore, his training in emergency communications, public engagement and event planning fits well with the needs of the Black Gold School Division now and into the future. We will be drawing upon his experience and training to move the Division forward.”

“Welcome, Deven, to the Black Gold family!”

Deven is a strategic communications professional with over 12 years of experience in local government. Prior to his new role at the Black Gold School Division, Deven served as the Communications Coordinator for the City of Lacombe, providing strategic advice to elected officials and senior administrators, drafting organizational policies in the areas of public consultation, community engagement, social media and others. He also led the development of award-winning communications plans for some of the biggest infrastructure projects for the municipality. Before the City of Lacombe, Deven was with the City of Edmonton, where he worked on public education efforts to promote recycling and sustainable waste management practices.

Away from the office, Deven loves spending time with his son Gabriel and wife Sarah, who bakes many yummy things. He also spends time behind an easel, daubing away on a piece of canvas, trying to paint the next Great Canadian Painting (alas, no luck yet).
