The Alberta Student Transportation Advisory Council (ASTAC) annually hosts a Provincial School Bus Safety Week poster contest for all Kindergarten to Grade Six students across Alberta. The contest runs during School Bus Safety Week, which occurs during the third week of October.

Prior to the provincial poster contest, the Division takes the entries from all the Black Gold Regional Schools and hosts their own competition. All the entries are then sent on to the provincial competition to be judged amongst the 2,000 entries that are received.

On April 5, 2017, Trustees and the BGRD Transportation Department recognized the ASTAC’s Provincial School Bus Safety Week poster contest winners that were selected from Black Gold Regional Schools.

For the 2016 contest, students were asked to create a poster depicting “Know the Zone” and illustrate the safety rules and danger zone of the bus. All provincial recipients received their picture professionally framed along with a plaque to hang in their school.  The winners of each grade category also received a $25 Indigo gift card and a cheque for $100 for a school field trip. Honourable mention winners received a $25 Indigo gift card.
