Christie Bergman
Bio
My name is Christie Bergman, and I have proudly called Beaumont home for over 18 years. As a parent of two children in Black Gold schools, I understand firsthand the challenges families face regarding classroom capacity, resources, and ensuring every child feels supported.
Professionally, I bring 18 years of experience as a successful small business owner and REALTOR®. This role has sharpened my skills in negotiation, advocacy, and problem-solving, qualities I know are essential for effective governance. I also serve on the College of Occupational Therapists of Alberta as an appointed public member, where I contribute to strategic planning and policy work at a provincial level.
My lived experience in rural Alberta, graduating with a class of just 18, taught me the value of small schools, community, and inclusion. Those lessons guide me as I seek to represent families across Ward 4.
Platform
I am running for trustee because I believe our students deserve the very best opportunities to succeed, and families deserve a strong voice at the table.
I believe kids must come first, with families at the heart of every decision. As your trustee for Ward 4, I will bring a parent’s perspective, business experience, and governance background to ensure our schools have the resources and leadership needed to thrive.
1. Student Success
Every child deserves the tools and support to reach their full potential. From literacy and numeracy to mental health and inclusion, I will advocate for initiatives that put students first. I will work to ensure teachers feel supported so they can focus on what they do best , teaching and inspiring our children.
2. Addressing Capacity and Growth
Beaumont and the surrounding communities are growing quickly, and our schools are feeling the strain. Beaumont Composite High School already has over 1,270 students, exceeding its intended capacity. I will strongly advocate for new schools, timely construction, and long-term planning to meet the needs of our families today and in the future.
3. Authentic Engagement
Real engagement goes beyond reports; it means listening to families, teachers, and students. I am committed to connecting with parent councils, hosting roundtable discussions, and working collaboratively with all levels of government to find solutions.
4. Governance and Accountability
Trustees are responsible for good governance, policy, and accountability. My work on a provincial board has given me experience in strategic planning, accountability frameworks, and decision-making that balances big-picture priorities with community needs.
My “why” is simple: when I look at my two kids, I know I am on the right path. I am committed to giving my very best to this role, bringing energy, integrity, and a strong voice for families.
Together, we can ensure Black Gold schools remain a place where every child can learn, grow, and succeed.
