Start Here to Determine Your Child's Eligibility

Click ➜ Can I Ride a Bus? to check your child’s transportation eligibility for the 2026/2027 school year.

Transportation eligibility is determined using the shortest driving distance from the student’s home address in PowerSchool to their school. Distances are calculated using official city and county planning maps.

Google Maps, Apple Maps, and other public mapping tools are not used to determine transportation eligibility.

🚨Please ensure your student's home address is up to date in PowerSchool before registering for transportation:
• During the school year – contact your child’s school directly
• During summer – call 780-955-6025 and ask for the Data Team

Transportation Eligibility Changes and What You Need to Know

As of September 1, 2025, the province of Alberta established the following funded transportation distances:

  • Kindergarten–Grade 6: 1.6 kilometres
  • Grades 7–12: 2.0 kilometres or more from designated school

For the 2025/26 school year only, Alberta Education provided one-year transition funding to support school divisions that had previously implemented the 1 kilometre eligibility distance for K–6 students.

As a result, some K-6 students who were eligible for transportation during the 2025/26 school year may no longer qualify as eligible riders for 2026/27 if they reside less than 1.6 km from their designated school.

Beginning in the 2026/27 school year, the provincial distance requirements will be fully in effect.
