Curriculum Instructional Coach, Literacy 7-12 - Division Office
Reporting to the Director of Curriculum & Instruction - Gr 7-12, Black Gold School Division is seeking a highly effective teacher who has a passion for lifelong learning, collaboration, and literacy practices, to join our Curriculum Team of Instructional Coaches to support BGSD Literacy Goals and Priorities.
The successful candidate will act as a resource, coach, and instructional leader in literacy. They will provide professional development, model effective practices, and collaborate with teachers to analyze data and tailor instruction, with the goal of building teacher capacity in literacy instruction and assessment practices across curricula.

The Instructional Coach – Literacy 7-12 will:
- Work one-on-one with teachers or in small groups, to improve student outcomes in literacy skills by providing support through modeling, co-teaching, coaching, and reflective conversations.
- Support literacy focused PLCs.
- Support teachers in analyzing student data and using assessment results (classroom, screening, and provincial) to inform planning, instruction, and assessment.
- Collaborate with teachers to develop and implement effective instructional strategies and assessment practices in literacy that promote student learning and achievement.
- Support curriculum implementation (new and existing curriculum) that leads to optimal learning for students.
- Facilitate division wide Communities of Practice to support curriculum and division priority areas.
- Provide leadership and support to teachers in working towards BGSD and school site literacy goals and priorities.
- Design and deliver professional learning opportunities for teachers focused on grade 7-12 literacy and coordinate the development and implementation of resources and workshops.
- Work as a part of a team to coordinate division screening assessments and data analysis.
- Work collaboratively with the Curriculum and Instruction Team of Coaches in BGSD
- Work collaboratively with groups/teams working on Black Gold initiatives in sites across BGSD.
- Work collaboratively with all members of the Learning Services team.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of successful teaching practice.
- Demonstrated ability and experience in effective pedagogy, lesson design, differentiation, and assessment strategies in literacy.
- Experience using a wide variety of research-based strategies and developing classroom resources connected to Alberta Curriculum.
- Experience teaching English and/or Social Studies at the grade 7-12 level.
- Experience with formative and summative assessment implementation, reporting and analysis.
- Evidence of experience analyzing data and using data to inform practice.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills and ability to build strong collegial relationships.
- Highly organized and detail oriented; yet flexible, with the ability to see the big picture and how multiple elements of schools fit together.
- Ability and willingness to drive to various school sites.
- Commitment to ongoing professional growth.
- Commitment to Truth and Reconciliation understanding and practice.
- Experience with Ed Tech/AI is considered an asset.
- Fluency in French is considered an asset.
- Experience with VRETTA digital platform is considered an asset.
