  • Inclement weather-related cancellations (e.g. extreme cold) are posted as close to 6:30 AM as possible
  • Other delays or breakdowns are posted as soon as we are informed

Why Buses Get Cancelled — and What Parents Need to Know

Road Conditions, Hazards, and Unexpected Closures

Individual route cancellations may occur due to:

Poor road conditions (ice, drifting, low visibility)
Road hazards (accidents, debris, obstructions)
• These decisions are made by the contractor, based on the safety of the specific route

Individual route cancellations may also occur due to:

Unexpected road closures issued by the town, city, or county for repairs, emergencies, or other municipal work

Notifications delays or cancellations for any of these situations are posted on:

• The Bus Status 4 app
blackgold.ca

Notifications are sent as soon as Transportation is made aware.


Bus Breakdowns

Breakdowns can occur before a route begins or while students are on board.

If a breakdown occurs before pickup begins:
• Every effort to arrange a replacement will be made
If a replacement cannot be arranged, the route may be cancelled
• Notifications of delays or cancellations are sent as soon as Transportation is made aware
• Parents are notified through the Bus Status 4 app and blackgold.ca

If a breakdown occurs during a route:
• The driver stays with the students
• A safe backup bus or alternative is arranged
• Notifications are sent as soon as Transportation is made aware
• Parents are notified through the Bus Status 4 app and blackgold.ca

Please ensure children are dressed for the weather in case of delays.


Inclement Weather

Buses are cancelled if the temperature is below -40 with or without windchill (area dependent) Find detailed information regarding our inclement weather policy here
