Library Clerk - Robina Baker Elementary School
Position Overview:
The Elementary School Library Technician plays a vital role in fostering a love of reading, supporting the K-6 curriculum, and managing the school’s information ecosystem. This position combines technical expertise in library sciences with a passion for student engagement, ensuring the library remains a welcoming, inclusive, and highly functional resource hub for students and staff alike.
Duties:
• Circulation of library materials, textbooks and teaching resources
• Data entry, overdue notices, interlibrary loans
• Catalogue and process new library materials
• Collection development by evaluating, selecting, and weeding appropriate materials, ensuring materials are in alignment with the curriculum, Intellectual Act of Freedom and legislative guidelines.
• Organize book fairs
• Repair damaged materials
• Supervise, assist and read to students in library and/or classroom
• Attend meetings and training provided by Black Gold School Division
• Other duties as assigned by the principal
Qualifications:
• Education as a library technician is an asset
• Knowledge of how to catalogue according to RDA cataloguing standards and processing new library material is required.
• Excellent computer skills and working knowledge of ILS software such as Insignia, Destiny, Polaris, Leap, etc, Microsoft Windows ,databases, Google platform and the internet
• Knowledge of and passion for children’s literature is required
• Flexibility and willingness to be involved in school activities
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
Hours & Compensation
- Position term: August 20, 2026 - June 29, 2027
- Hours of work: Tuesday to Thursday
- Salary and benefits according to current C.U.P.E. Collective Agreement
