Position Commences August 2026

Nestled in the heart of a small farming community, Thorsby Elementary School (TES) holds a special place in the lives of its students, staff, and families. With deep roots in tradition, the school remains a cornerstone of education for generations. Currently, at TES, we have 223 students from Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 6. We currently have 20 students (10%) out of our attendance boundary. We have 11 teaching staff, 9 educational assistants, two additional support staff working in our main office and library, and two custodians. Our mission at Thorsby Elementary  School is to guide students to become responsible global citizens who are life-long learners intellectually, socially, emotionally, and physically.

Educational leaders applying for this position should have the following experience and characteristics:

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with everyone in the school community
  • Demonstrated commitment and experience in implementing Visible Learning strategies to assess impact, guide instructional practices, and empower students to understand their learning journey
  • Skills and experience in working with the school team, division supports, as well as outside agencies, to create an environment where all students are successful
  • Experience in a Learning Support role is an asset
  • Proficiency with educational technology and digital communication tools an asset
  • Knowledge of rural education and a dedicated commitment to long-term community involvement and relationship building
  • Skilled in the Nine Leadership Quality Standards Competencies: Fostering Effective Relationships, Modeling Commitment to Professional Learning, Embodying Visionary Leadership, Leading a Learning Community, Supporting the Application of Foundational Knowledge about First Nations, Métis and Inuit, Providing Instructional Leadership, Developing Leadership Capacity, Managing School Operations and Resources, and Understanding and Responding to the Larger Societal Context
  • Completion of or pursuing a related graduate degree
  • Completion of or willingness to complete the LQS Certification Program
  • Completion of or willingness to complete one of the following programs is required:
    • Start-Right Program – Olds – C.A.S.S..
    • Educational Leadership Academy – ATA
