Cold Weather Bus Policy
How Extreme Cold Bus Cancellations Are Determined
- Bus service may be cancelled when temperatures reach -40°C or colder, with or without wind chill.
Extreme cold bus cancellations are determined for each community or area. This means buses may be cancelled in one location (e.g., Warburg) while continuing to operate in another (e.g., Beaumont), depending on local conditions.
- Decisions are made to protect students from extreme cold and the risk of a bus breakdown.
- Black Gold uses The Weather Network to monitor temperatures across the Division.
⚠️ Please Note: If buses are cancelled in the morning due to temperature-related conditions, they will also be cancelled for the afternoon.
Extreme cold bus cancellations are posted as close to 6:30 AM as possible on:
- Bus Status 4 app
- blackgold.ca
- Individual school websites
Families will also receive a SchoolMessenger text message when buses are cancelled.
Please note that schools remain open unless there is a facility emergency (e.g., a water main break).
🚨 Before heading to the bus stop, always check blackgold.ca and the Bus Status 4 app for the latest transportation information.
