Qualifications:

  • An Education Assistant Certificate/Diploma or post-secondary education in a related field is strongly preferred.
  • Training in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) and Positive Behaviour Support is considered a strong asset. First Aid / CPR certification is an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience working with academically, behaviorally, and emotionally challenged secondary students.
  • Experience with or willingness to be trained in specialized medical procedures (e.g., tracheal suctioning or mechanical lift operation) is an asset.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with students, parents, teachers, and multidisciplinary team members.
  • Strong organizational skills, patience, flexibility, problem-solving ability, and a commitment to respecting the dignity and individuality of all learners.

Requirements:

  • Provide academic, emotional, and social support to students with complex behavioural and diverse learning needs in one-on-one, small group, and inclusive classroom environments.
  • Work collaboratively as a member of the learning support team alongside classroom teachers, learning support teachers, consultants, and school administration.
  • Assist with the implementation of Individualized Services Plans (ISP) and behaviour support plans, keeping accurate records regarding student academic and behavioural progress.
  • Provide assistance and support for student learning in specialized settings, such as the Learning Everyday, Achieving Potential (LEAP) program, as required.
  • Assist with personal care routines, including feeding, hydration, medication, hygiene, and toileting.
  • Provide physical and mobility support to students with physical disabilities, visual impairments, or complex medical needs.
  • Facilitate student use of assistive learning technology.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by school administration.

Hours & Compensation

  • Position term: September 1, 2026 - June 28, 2027
  • Hours of work: Monday to Friday (to be determined)
  • Salary and benefits according to current C.U.P.E. Collective Agreement
