Beaumont's New High School
New School in Beaumont
After over eight years of dedicated advocacy, the Black Gold School Division (BGSD) is thrilled to announce that Beaumont will soon have a new high school to meet the growing needs of our community. This significant achievement is the result of years of unwavering effort by the Board of Trustees, who have consistently worked to expand educational opportunities and address the needs of our rapidly increasing student population. With the support of the provincial government, this vision is now becoming a reality.
Securing a new high school is a multi-year, multi-step process. For nearly a decade, the Board of Trustees has worked tirelessly to advocate for additional high school spaces for Beaumont's expanding student population. We made it a priority in our capital funding requests, consistently pushing for solutions to meet the needs of our community. Through sustained advocacy, detailed evidence of Beaumont’s growing student population, and strategic presentations, we worked diligently to ensure the needs of our community were communicated and prioritized at the provincial level.
A crucial step in the process was securing a serviced lot for the new school. While there were delays along the way, the City of Beaumont confirmed in the fall of 2024 that a serviced lot would be available for the school to be built. This commitment allowed the BGSD Board to confidently include the site as our top priority in our capital funding request to the provincial government, providing the certainty needed to move forward with the next steps in the planning and development process.
With the location secured, BGSD, in collaboration with STAR Catholic Schools, continued to advocate for the construction of two new high schools. Our strong partnership with STAR Catholic Schools played a key role in making the case for new high school spaces in Beaumont. Together, we presented a unified voice to the provincial government, which ultimately approved funding for the new schools.
The new BGSD high school will have a capacity for 1,100 students, providing vital space for the growing student population in Beaumont. STAR Catholic Schools will also build a separate high school for 400 students on the same site in the new Azur neighbourhood. While each school will have its own dedicated facilities, their proximity will allow for efficient planning and development, benefiting both school divisions.
This new high school represents a significant investment in the future of Beaumont’s students, and we are excited to see it take shape. We are proud of the collaboration that made this project possible and look forward to the lasting impact it will have on students and families in the community.
