2024 Superintendent’s Service Award for Excellence Nominee: Erik Larson
The nominees for this year’s Superintendent’s Service Award for Excellence include École Bellevue School (EBS) Assistant Principal, Erik Larson.
Erik has worked tirelessly to break down barriers and create inclusive environments where every child, regardless of background or ability, can experience the transformative power of physical activity. Whether through his leadership in organizing community sports events, advocating for increased access to athletic facilities, or mentoring young athletes, Erik consistently goes above and beyond to ensure that every child has the chance to discover their passion and potential by participating in the Active for Life program. By championing this initiative, Erik has demonstrated his commitment to promoting health and wellness among students and staff.
Erik’s leadership style and unwavering support for his staff have significantly contributed to fostering positive staff morale and spirit within the school. Through his approachable demeanour, open communication, and genuine concern for the well-being of his team members, Erik has created a work environment where staff feel valued, respected, and empowered.
“At teachers’ conventions, Erik goes above and beyond, pouring his energy into organizing and facilitating sessions that inspire and empower educators,” said one nominator, Amy Brodersen. “His passion for wellness was palpable as he shared innovative teaching strategies and fostered collaboration among colleagues.”
Through his diligent efforts in acquiring Sport Ball grants and Kids Sport grants, he has opened doors of opportunity for those who may not have had the opportunity otherwise. By championing these initiatives, Erik ensures that every child, regardless of circumstance, has the chance to experience the joy and benefits of sports and nutrition. His actions exemplify true leadership and embody the spirit of service, enriching the lives of both students and educators alike within the Division.
