2024 Inspiring Success Award Nominee: Jill Mattock
The nominees for this year’s Inspiring Success Award of Distinction include John Maland High School (JMHS) Teacher, Jill Mattock.
Jill worked as a vice principal at John Maland High School for years and was always a constant in the office. She was the first one there in the mornings and the last one to leave at the end of the day. She worked countless hours with students and the community throughout the summer working on the RAP and work experience programs.
Jill’s main goal with her teaching and leadership roles has been to foster deep and
meaningful relationships with her students and staff members. She has found ways to inspire
others to endure challenging days, increase school spirit participation and lead others to be a part of a whole school community.
“As a teacher, I know that I can always go to Jill if I have questions or need advice. With her
years of experience she always provides helpful guidance,” said one nominator, Lucia Kruyer. “She goes above and beyond the regular teaching scope by inspiring wonder and curiosity
within her lessons.”
When engaging in her physics class Jill can mostly be seen in the lab. She believes that doing physics and understanding the principles utilizing a hands-on approach is the best avenue to learning. She also uses their failures in the lab as a pivotal teaching moment to make every class a success.
