Black Gold Board's reflecs on the history of Indigenous peoples in Canada on National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

On National Day for Truth and Reconciliation we are reflecting on the history of Indigenous people in Canada. The Board of Trustees and Black Gold School Division recognizes the responsibility education has to acknowledge the truth of residential schools and their lasting impacts on Indigenous children, families and communities. Truth must come before reconciliation, and listening and learning are essential parts of that journey.

As a Board, we know reconciliation must be more than words. It must be reflected in our priorities, our policies and the decisions we make. We are committed to listening to Indigenous voices, strengthening relationships and working alongside Indigenous communities to shape what meaningful reconciliation looks like within Black Gold.
