Black Gold School Division receives national award for communications excellence
Black Gold School Division has received a national award at the 2026 Canadian Association of Communicators in Education (CACE) Bravo! Awards, recognizing exemplary communications work.
The division received a Coup de Coeur Bravo! Award for its Preschool advertising campaign. The campaign worked to create a positive experience for families investigating early intervention preschool for the first time. The goal was to shift what could feel overwhelming or uncertain, into a welcoming, supportive and hopeful experience.
“We are incredibly proud of our communications team for receiving this national recognition,” says Michael Borgfjord, Black Gold Superintendent. “Transitioning into early intervention preschool can feel daunting for families, but this campaign beautifully captured our commitment to ensuring every family feels welcomed, supported and hopeful. We know our youngest learners who benefit most from these programs are getting the vital support they need.”
The campaign aligned multiple communication tools such as social media, post cards, posters, school newsletter information, and website content with the same visual branding and the message: “When little learners need a little more, we’re here”. All of the tools lead families to a website page with simplified and positive information, and an invitation to complete a free developmental screening.
Positive feedback from surveyed parents and frontline staff identified the shift in messaging as positive. Also, in a provincial environment that is challenging school divisions in maintaining their early intervention programs, Black Gold was able to reach stable levels of enrolment by June 30, 2026. This means the students who can benefit from early intervention are finding Black Gold’s programming and receiving the supports they need.
The CACE Bravo! Awards, presented by SchoolBundle, are the only national awards program specifically designed to recognize excellence in school board communications. Each year, the program honours exemplary work in school public relations, communications, marketing and engagement across Canada.
