Hats off for mental health at École Danserau Meadows School
École Danserau Meadows School celebrated Hats Off for Mental Health on May 6th with a school wide mental health activity day.
Students from both elementary and junior high grades rotated to activity stations to learn skills for managing and navigating their mental wellbeing.
Stations ranged from outdoor physical activities like ball hockey and soccer to more artistic and creative activities like lego, drawing, and origami, and collaborative activities like board games and pingpong.
School principal, Janine Woronuk, says that while she wanted the students to experience a variety of activities and have fun, the goal of the day was to “[show] kids different ways to find joy and get through those harder times.”
In the digital age, she says that having discussions about mental health and developing skills to navigate our emotions are more important than ever.
“Mental health is such a key issue in our world today,” Woronuk says, “I think days like this are really important, and I’d love to do more of them.”
