Dear Parents and Guardians,

We are reaching out to keep you informed on the latest updates regarding a possible labour action from CUPE Local 3484. This union represents our dedicated education support staff within Black Gold School Division (BGSD), including School Secretaries, Librarians, Education Assistants, Beauty Culture Technicians, Accounting Technicians, Educational Transliterators, Licensed Practical Nurses, and Therapy Assistants.

On January 30th, we were notified that CUPE Local 3484 intends to conduct a strike vote on February 9th and 10th. We will not know the results of the vote until it is completed. However, we would like to provide you with the following information:

  • In the event of a strike, Black Gold School Division will remain open and school operations will continue. We will make every effort to maintain our programming to the best of our ability. Creating a safe, vibrant, and enriching learning environment for all students remains our top priority.
  • If union members vote to strike, they must provide a minimum of 72 hours’ notice before withdrawing services.
  • The Division deeply appreciates the contributions of its support staff and recognizes their essential role in schools. We are working toward a fair and balanced resolution.

We will continue to share updates with you via SchoolMessenger and the Black Gold School Division’s website, https://www.blackgold.ca, as it becomes available. Your understanding and patience are appreciated as we work through the potential impact this may create in our schools. Further information will be shared in the upcoming days.

Sincerely,

Michael Borgfjord, Superintendent
Black Gold School Division
