Thorsby Elementary educators dig into the science of learning to read and write

Thorsby Elementary School staff were getting curious about learning on September 18, a Professional Development Day.

There is a lot of new science about how young learners build literacy skills. The staff at TES were learning about an approach to teaching literacy that takes the new science into account. FlyLeaf targets specific skills as young children learn, and it builds students skills in developmentally appropriate ways.

“The most powerful part of the day was having a space where staff could learn alongside one another, be curious, and feel comfortable asking questions,” says Amy Hodge, Principal. “The PD connects directly to what teachers and support staff are and will be doing in their classrooms. We are excited about the positive impact this will have for our students.”
