Trustees were pleased to connect, recently, with two students who competed in the Leduc Aspiring Young Artist competition last spring, and whose artwork was purchased by Black Gold to be displayed at Black Gold’s office.

Farah Wood from Leduc Composite High School and Madalyn Hutzul from Ohpaho Secondary School were recognized at the October Board meeting where they were able to share what inspired their artwork, and what it meant that the Board selected their artwork to be on display.

Wood, who created The Sheep, talked about the effort required to get her piece how she wanted it to appear. LCHS Principal Wendy Francis said, “We are very proud of you being able to share your talents with people.”

Hutzul shared that her photography piece, entitled Listen, was inspired by one of the 11 donkeys her family has at home, named Poppy. Hutzul’s teacher, Mark Templeton, commented that in photography one of the keys to success is framing, and that makes each piece authentic and unique. “The way this piece is framed is unique. Only Madalyn can do that.”

Sharlaine Amit, who graduated from Leduc Composite High School in June, created a piece called Sunday Morning. She was unable to attend the meeting.

Trustees Devonna Klaassen and Natasha Warnock selected the three pieces on behalf of the division. Klaassen said “we selected pieces based on how they made us feel. We were zooming out in each scene, thinking about what we couldn’t see.”

The Board congratulated each of the artists, and thanked them for sharing their artwork with the division.
