Important Update Regarding CUPE Local 3484 Labour Action - February 20
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are reaching out to you to inform you that the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 3484 has officially served 72 hours’ notice of job action to Black Gold School Division. On Monday, February 24th at 7:45 a.m., all BGSD support staff will start full strike action and will not provide labour services to students. Tomorrow, your child’s school will reach out to you with school-specific information about contingency plans.
Most BGSD students will continue to attend school normally. However, for safety and programming reasons, some students will be moved to full-time or part-time at-home learning while job action is ongoing. We are in the process of contacting parents whose children will be asked to stay home. You will receive either a phone call or email indicating whether your child will be placed in at-home programming.
BGSD recognizes that the impacts of job action are disruptive and challenging to families and schools. BGSD’s bargaining team is scheduled to meet with CUPE Local 3484’s representatives on February 25th to continue negotiations. We are committed to working towards a resolution that is fair and balanced.
We remain hopeful that we can reach a settlement with our valued support staff at the bargaining table, and will keep you updated on the status of negotiations. Thank you for your continued patience and support.
Sincerely,
Michael Borgfjord, Superintendent
Black Gold School Division
