Important Update Regarding CUPE Local 3484 Labour Action - February 22
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As explained in our previous letter, CUPE Local 3484 delivered 72 hours’ notice of strike to the Black Gold School Division (BGSD) on Thursday evening. On Monday, February 24th, CUPE members will commence picketing activity at the following school locations and times:
- Leduc Composite High School, 7:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.
- École Bellevue School, 7:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.
- Robina Baker Elementary School, 8:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m.
- Thorsby Elementary School, 7:45 a.m.–11:45 a.m.
- Thorsby Junior/Senior High School, 7:45 a.m.–11:45 a.m.
- New Sarepta Community High School, 8:00 a.m.–12:00 Noon
We do not anticipate that picket activity will cause severe disruption at BGSD schools. CUPE members are required to follow very specific guidelines while picketing, and are not permitted on school grounds while engaged in job action.
However, please be aware that there may be slight delays in student pick-up and drop-off times at these locations. This applies to both buses and parents/guardians transporting their children.
BGSD will continue to provide updates to you regarding CUPE Local 3484’s picketing activity as information becomes available. For the most current information regarding ongoing job action, please visit the Labour Action Updates page on our website.
Thank you for your continuing patience and support.
Sincerely,
Michael Borgfjord, Superintendent
Black Gold School Division
