RE: BGSD & CUPE Local 3484 Reach Memorandum of Agreement

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The Black Gold School Division (BGSD) is pleased to announce that a Memorandum of Agreement has been reached with CUPE Local 3484. This is an important step toward resolution, and bringing our valued support staff back into our schools.

We want to extend our sincere gratitude to CUPE Local 3484’s bargaining team for their willingness to work with BGSD to reach a resolution.

Next Steps

This agreement must be voted on by both CUPE Local 3484 members and BGSD’s Board of Trustees before it can be ratified, which is the final step in this process. Both CUPE and the Board of Trustees will vote on ratifying the Memorandum of Agreement on Wednesday, March 19th.

In the event of a successful ratification by both parties, CUPE support staff members will return to work on Thursday, March 20th. Schools will then communicate return to school plans for all part-time and at-home learners, as preparations to welcome students back will require some time. We anticipate that all learners will return to school by Monday, March 24th.

Thank you all for your patience and understanding throughout this challenging period. We are eager to restore full school operations as quickly as possible. Our priority is to ensure a smooth transition back to in-person learning.

We will share more information with you as soon as it becomes available.

Sincerely,

Michael Borgfjord, Superintendent
Black Gold School Division
