2024 Inspiring Success Award Nominee: Dr. Hardeep Rai

The nominees for this year’s Inspiring Success Award of Distinction include Riverview Middle School (RMS) Teacher, Dr. Hardeep Rai.

Hardeep’s knowledge and experience have impacted each member of RMS in a meaningful and measurable way. He can illuminate the experience of some traditionally underrepresented groups in a way that evokes the need for change. Anyone who has spent time in conversation with Hardeep is impacted by it and inspired to fight to make the world a more inclusive place.

Hardeep does not shy away from having challenging conversations and promoting change where needed. He strongly connects with some of our most vulnerable student and staff populations and allows them to feel seen, heard, and protected while in his presence.

“Hardeep has an academic background that could allow him to teach at any level, including post-secondary as he has done in the past,” said one nominator, Pam Verhoeff. “Yet he chooses to teach grade five at Riverview because of the love he has for the most vulnerable kids in that community.”

Hardeep is passionate about teaching, particularly in the field of science, and he consistently emphasizes this enthusiasm in his instructional approach. Through skillful questioning techniques, he ignites students’ curiosity and encourages them to engage actively in experiments and hands-on learning activities. In his teaching methodology, Hardeep prioritizes the learning process, thereby instilling in his students a genuine love for learning. By fostering a supportive classroom environment, he cultivates a space where students feel empowered to ask questions and take risks, further enhancing their educational experience.
