Calmar Collegiate School Construction Update
The construction of Calmar Collegiate Secondary School is in its final stages, as crews prepare the building for its opening this fall.
Construction Progress
Recent work has focused on completing the interior of the new addition, including classrooms, trades labs, offices, and washrooms. Specialized equipment for the carpentry, electrical, and pipe trades labs has begun arriving on site. Installation will continue into the fall, with the support of technicians and industry partners to ensure the spaces are ready for hands-on learning.
Preparing Students
The new Collegiate program welcomes Grades 10–12, offering a unique pathway to Alberta’s skilled trades:
Grade 10—Students exploring carpentry, electrical, welding, pipe trades, iron working, and masonry through full-day offsite hands-on experiences at industry-standard training facilities.
Grade 11 - Students will spend semestered afternoons focusing on carpentry, pipe trades, and electrical with a dedicated teacher in the newly built 5000 sq ft shop at Calmar Secondary Collegiate School.
Grade 12—Students have the opportunity to complete their pre-apprenticeship program in one of carpentry, pipe trades, or electrical (carpentry only in 2025/2026). Programming will culminate in the writing of the appropriate AIT (Apprenticeship and Industry Training) exam.
Partnerships with Northern Lakes College, the Building Trades of Alberta, and the Educational Partnership Foundation give students direct exposure to certified teachers and industry professionals.
