Community Peace Officer Makes a Big Impact in Leduc Schools
Whether it’s leading a Grade 6 DARE class or presenting to kindergarten students about crossing the street safely, Community Peace Officer Brad Agotnes—affectionately known by some students as "Officer Brad"—is making an indelible mark on Leduc’s elementary schools.
As the School Resource Officer for the Leduc Community Peace Officer Program, Agotnes delivers engaging safety education to students from Kindergarten to Grade 6 in Black Gold School Division schools. His lessons cover a wide range of topics, including bicycle and street safety, online responsibility, smoking and vaping awareness, and how to stay safe when home alone. He also leads the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) program for Grade 6 students.
“Peace Officer Agotnes has been a tremendous addition to the BGSD educational family,” says Chris Stiles, Division Principal with the Black Gold School Division. “His dedication to our Leduc elementary students is truly appreciated. Brad consistently models sound safety practices, empowering our youth to make responsible and informed decisions.”
One of the most impactful parts of Agotnes’ role is how he connects with students. Through classroom presentations, school assemblies, and participation in a variety of school events, he builds relationships that help young learners feel safe, supported, and heard.
“Peace Officer Agotnes has been an incredible asset to our school community, fostering vital positive relationships between law enforcement and our students,” says Tarynne Cable, Assistant Principal at École Leduc Estates School. “He brings a unique blend of fun and education, engaging our young people in learning about safety at home and in the community.
“His DARE Program with the Grade 6s has been a resounding success, and the kids genuinely light up when he's around. Whether it's joking with them in assemblies or actively participating in school activities, Officer Agotnes consistently builds bridges of trust and respect, making a real difference in the lives of our students.”
The Leduc Community Peace Officer Program is a collaborative initiative funded by the City of Leduc, the Black Gold School Division, and STAR Catholic. With Officer Agotnes at the helm, it’s doing more than just teaching safety—it’s helping shape a generation of informed, responsible, and confident kids.
