Eight Black Gold schools selected to receive Complexity Teams
Black Gold School Division has learned the Government of Alberta will provide eight Complexity Teams, as a part of the Class Size and Complexity Grant, announced on February 12.
The province has selected the following BGSD schools to receive a Complexity Team:
- École Dansereau Meadows School
- West Haven Public School
- École Bellevue School
- École Corinthia Park School
- East Elementary School
- Willow Park School
- École Leduc Estates School
- École Horizon Heights School
Each team consists of one teacher and two educational assistants who will support the academic, behavioural, social, and emotional needs of students. Complexity teams will provide additional support to students and staff, helping ensure safe, supportive learning environments where all students can succeed.
The province’s $143 million investment through the Complexity Teams is intended to:
- Strengthen early identification of student needs
- Support diverse learners
- Enhance the capacity of schools to respond to increasingly complex classroom environments
Schools selected to receive funding were identified using a provincial matrix that reviewed submitted data related to:
- Class size
- Class composition (e.g., English language learners, mild/moderate or severe needs, individualized programming plans, refugee status, and other learning supports)
- Class occurrence rates of identified student needs
“Black Gold School Division appreciates the Government’s investment in schools. We remain committed to directing resources where they will have the greatest impact on student learning and well-being,” says Michael Borgfjord, Superintendent, Black Gold School Division.
Further information about implementation and next steps will be shared as details become available.
