Robina Baker Elementary School held a playground grand opening ceremony on June 20. Many families came out to celebrate this long-awaited addition to the school.

“It took a lot of collective effort and energy to stay the course while we raised the necessary funds,” said Diana Rushfeldt, one of the parents on the fundraising committee for the playground. “There were some tough times, but the parent team really rallied around the project.”

“The town is so happy to be part of this,” added Devon Mayor Jeff Craddock. “Every time people work this hard, everybody gains and we’re all thankful. We couldn’t do it alone.”

“I just wanted to say congratulations to everyone,” said Chelsey Volkman, Associate Superintendent for the Black Gold School Division. “I know that so many people have contributed and there’s been many volunteer hours. So on behalf of Black Gold, I want to say thank you and congratulations!”

Kids of all ages enjoyed the brand-new playground, and one special fourth grader even got to cut the ribbon. “I think it is amazing,” said Jamie. “I’ve waited a long time for this playground, and I think it’s a great addition to the school.”
