Inclusive Education students make post-High School plans at annual Inclusion Transitions Night
Families from across Black Gold explored post-High School options at this year's Inclusion Transitions Night, hosted by École Secondaire Beaumont Composite High School.
The annual event connects students in inclusive education programs and their families with post-secondary options, employment opportunities, funding resources, and community organizations that can help students achieve their goals after High School.
There are so many great opportunities out there for students with exceptionalities or special needs, says Katie DeBoer, Learning Support teacher and event organizer. An evening like this really empowers families and students to get excited about the future and feel supported in their goals.
Organizations attending the event included Olds College, NorQuest College, Gateway Association, Inclusion Alberta, AdaptAbilities, and AISH representatives, among others.
Throughout the drop-in style event, families had the opportunity to speak directly with representatives who shared information about what life after high school could look like, what resources are available, and how to access them; helping families navigate this transition and discover the many opportunities available to students.
Sometimes people don't realize all of the options that their kids might have after school. So, this is just a really great educational evening, DeBoer says.
The event, previously held at Leduc Composite High School annually, will now rotate locations yearly between Leduc Composite High School, École Secondaire Beaumont Composite High School, and Ohpaho Secondary School.
This collaboration across Black Gold ensures students and families from all around the division have access to information and resources that can help support the successful transition from High School to adulthood.
