Summer learning continues to grow across Black Gold
Hundreds of Black Gold students are growing their knowledge and skills this month - at Summer School!
A wide range of learning opportunities are available to the approximately 1,750 students choosing to participate this year, including:
- Welding and Fabrication, and Mechanics
- Core high school subjects: Math, Science, Social Studies, and English
- Physical Education and CALM (Career and Life Management)
- Literacy and Numeracy focused ‘Boost’ camps for students in Grade 1 to 8
Classes are underway - at the high school level - at Ohpaho Secondary School, as well as at Leduc Composite High School and École Secondaire Beaumont Composite High School. Students in the Gr. 1 to 8 program are at West Haven Public School and École Champs Vallee School.
The number of students in this program has continued to grow over the years. According to Summer School Principal Luke Stevenson, some students attend because it is a chance to strengthen their ability in a subject area. Also, high school students use the opportunity to create flexibility in their upcoming schedules.
“The students appreciate Summer School and want to participate,” says Stevenson. “We love welcoming students who want to balance their academic ambitions with flexibility, and this program meets the need. We are happy to have them here and enjoy helping them succeed.”
