    The nominees for this year’s Superintendent’s Service Award for Excellence include East Elementary School (EES) Educational Assistant, Vanessa Cox.

    Vanessa has had an enormous yet quiet impact on her role by leading her classroom and creating general happiness at East Elementary School. Vanessa is considerate and thoughtful and has the willingness to learn.

    Vanessa always looks to find the best outcome for all involved and truly exemplifies the core values of Black Gold. She strives to create an inclusive environment that embraces diversity and is supportive and safe for all. She values the health and wellness of every member of the EES community and commits to sustaining this welcoming and positive culture every day. 

    “I have seen Vanessa interact with staff and peers and she always takes the time to listen and make sure that everyone is included in the conversation. She prides herself on building relationships and truly getting to know the people around her,” said one of the nominators, Lia Chernenkoff. “Vanessa is kind, honest, and a natural leader. Vanessa always sees the good side of people and encourages other staff to do the same.”

    Despite the overwhelming amount of work that everyone has to do, Vaness consistently finds ways to help her coworkers. Staff members have noted her willingness to assist others and her commitment to uplifting those around her is worthy of nomination.
