See below for a statement from the Board of Trustees:

“As we acknowledge June is Pride Month, the Black Gold School Division’s Board of Trustees reaffirms its commitment to ensuring that all members of our school community – regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity – have opportunities to be seen, feel valued, and thrive in environments free from all forms of discrimination and prejudice.

This month serves as a sobering reminder of the harassment, isolation, and psychological distress that 2SLGBTQIA+ members of our community have and continue to endure. It is also a time to recognize and appreciate their achievements and contributions to the school division and to society.

The Board’s dedication to equality, respect, and dignity for every individual is reflected in our policies, programs, and everyday practices. We are steadfast in our efforts to reduce stigma and dispel misinformation through education.

We continue to support gay-straight alliances/queer-straight alliances in our schools, and provide appropriate resources to help create safe and welcoming environments for all students and staff. We want everyone to feel accepted, be comfortable in expressing their authentic selves, and feel a sense of belonging in Black Gold.

The presence of the Pride flag in schools represents our understanding and acceptance of the wide range of diversity that exists within Black Gold. It indicates to everyone that they are entering safe, inclusive, and welcoming spaces.”
