English as an Additional Language (EAL) Junior Kindergarten

EAL Junior Kindergarten intake now open!

In response to our growing English as an Additional Language (EAL) community within the Black Gold School Division boundaries, we now have EAL Junior Kindergarten programs in Leduc and Beaumont for the 2024-2025 school year:

• École Dansereau Meadows School in Beaumont
• Willow Park School in Leduc

The EAL Junior Kindergarten program is a social, play-based, targeted learning program for children whose main language at home is not English. The program allows your child to grow, interact, imagine, experiment, and explore while enhancing their English language skills.

The Junior Kindergarten program is a half-day program, four days a week, led by a certified teacher and an education assistant. The school has a dedicated classroom for the program, designed to meet the students’ unique needs.

To be accepted into the program, children must be three years and eight months (3 years 8 months) of age on August 31st of the respective school year. Consider having an intake screening and finding out if your child is eligible for our *free Junior Kindergarten with us.

*Please note: To be eligible for Junior Kindergarten, your child can only have EAL as a need. If our team identifies your child presents with a developmental delay through intake or in class, they will need to transition to our Early Intervention Pre-Kindergarten sites.

*Although the programming is free for children that qualify, there is a yearly material enhancement fee of $80.

  *Designated Pre-Kindergarten site for École Leduc Estates School, Willow Park School and Linsford Park School
• Robina Baker Elementary School
• Thorsby Elementary School
  *Designated Pre-Kindergarten site for Warburg School

* Please note: Covenant Christian Play School does not fall under the Black Gold School Division Pre-Kindergarten umbrella, please contact the school directly for more information about registration for that program.
