2016 Inspiring Success Award of Distinction awarded to Mr. James Toomey

The Board of Trustees of Black Gold Regional Division No. 18 believes in recognizing contributions of individuals or groups within Black Gold Regional Schools that “Inspire Success” of students and staff.

This year’s recipient of the Inspiring Success Award of Distinction has made a notable, significant and positive contribution to Black Gold Regional Schools.

Mr. James Toomey is currently a teacher with 25 years of service in BGRD, working in the Special Programs area at Leduc Composite High School.  Specifically, James has worked with students with special needs for 20 years and created the Pre-Employment Program at Leduc Composite High School from the ground-up.  This Program provides students with special needs the ability to find work in the community and prepares them for life after high school.

James consistently demonstrates a strong work ethic and passion for teaching.  Not only does he spend much time completing work related to his teaching assignment, he also organizes field trips, finds work placements for students and remains informed of possible supports for families and children post high school.

James has demonstrated recognized leadership that has had an identifiable impact, and has made a significant difference to Public Education in the Black Gold community. And lastly, he “Inspired Success” in students and staff through Student – Focused Learning, Relationships, a Supportive Environment, Passion and Managing Resources Responsibly.
