On October 16, 2023, during the lunch hour, a violent incident occurred off-campus involving a number of youths from Black Gold schools ranging in age from 13-16 years.

Following an investigation by the Leduc RCMP, four youths, who cannot be named, have been charged under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The Black Gold School Division, Leduc RCMP, and the Leduc & Area Violent Threat Risk Assessment Team members are involved and are taking appropriate action, and working to support the community.

“We are shocked by this incident and deeply concerned for the victim and their family,” said Superintendent of Schools Bill Romanchuk. “We will do whatever we can to support them during this very difficult time.”

“The safety of all students is important to us, and we are cooperating fully with the RCMP and our VTRA partners,” said Romanchuk. “It is important that we allow the professionals to deal with the situation and not have anyone attempt to take matters into their own hands – that will only make things worse.”

The police investigation into this incident is ongoing.
