Advocating for Dual Credit program funding

Your Board of Trustees joined other public, catholic and francophone school boards for the Alberta School Boards Association’s (ASBA) Fall General Meeting, where they met with MLAs and cabinet ministers, voted on position statements to guide provincial advocacy, and took part in professional development sessions.

Black Gold and Wild Rose school divisions working together

In a move to responsibly manage resources and to ensure uninterrupted and high-quality education for students, the Black Gold School Division (BGSD) and the Wild Rose School Division (WRSD) are collaborating to facilitate the temporary relocation of Breton High School’s grade 7-12 students to Warburg School during the anticipated Breton High School modernization project.

Board approves new Leduc schools boundaries and reconfiguration

At their Special Board Meeting on November 3, the Board of Trustees approved the new boundary and grade configurations for its schools in Leduc (excluding *Covenant Christian School and the Leduc Outreach School).

“The feedback received through consultations with our school families, staff, and stakeholders was a significant factor in the Board’s decision,” said Board Chair Esther Eckert. “The approved recommendations strike a balanced approach to viable enrolments at all schools and minimizes disruptions to students and families, while providing continuing quality programming for all students through equitable school utilization. They also provide a measure of stability for our schools for the foreseeable future.”

Trustees building relationships with key partners

As part of their ongoing work to advocate for a strong public education system, the Board of Trustees met with members of Leduc County Council and senior administration on October 4 to share information and explore opportunities for partnerships.

“As a growing school district and a growing county, we are addressing some of the same issues,” said Board Chair Esther Eckert. “It was important for us to sit at the same table and consider ways we can work together to support our students and school communities.”

On October 18, the Board hosted their first-ever meeting with the representatives from the Maskwacis Education School Commission, to share information and to build mutually beneficial relationships.

Members of both school boards gave permission to their respective administrations to work together and explore opportunities for collaboration and future partnerships, joint sports initiatives, and invite each other to special events to promote cross-cultural understanding.

2022-2023 AERR Report shows improvements to support student success

Annually, the Division reviews student performance and results to assess progress toward achieving the goals outlined by Alberta Education and the school division’s Education Plan.

The 2022-2023 Annual Education Results Report (AERR) results show how the Division is performing against provincial and local measures, and identifies strategies that we can use to inspire success.

“This type of reporting is an integral component of school authority accountability and assurance,” said Board Chair Esther Eckert. “Our Administrative team develops this annual report to provide information related to progress made on the goals established in the previous year’s Education Plan.”
